Gen Alpha and Invitation

Aug 09 - 2024

The insignificant research I’ve done on the screen culture and it’s impact on young minds has me concerned for Gen. Alpha. I’m by no means an expert and I find the topic too depressing to attract too much of my attention, especially when I feel I am personally doing everything I can to combat the very malady I see

Uruguay is not a fast paced nation. Uruguay is not disconnected from it’s agricultural foundations to the point that the West is. It’s not uncommon here to see horses alongside the highway, either being ridden or attached to a post for a bit of grazing the public land.

I have heard tourists remark at this. They find it charming or at least interesting. Uruguay is second to only Mongolia (the land that gave the world Genghis Khan) in horses per capita and my experience has reinforced a video made recently by the Uruguayan government extolling the Oriental as “the people of the horse.”

Convenience and entertainment via modern distractions can make life feel easier all the while robbing you of everything you know to be of real meaning.

Not every opportunity is afforded to everyone. I realize that the overwhelming majority of the population that wishes to improve or even remove themselves of the societal decay that is the modern (or post-modern) West cannot. I wish I could do more. It does not take much thought on this to realize the societal cost to be paid by that action of publicly pushing back against the multitude of narratives that result in harm to those believe them. There is significant personal cost to be paid by those that swim against these strong societal tides.

Uruguay wants to be itself and improve. As a waitress at the hotel restaurant in Casa Grande, in Jose Ignacio, told me, she wishes to see Uruguay’s future as a “Criollo” future. She does not want Uruguay to lose the qualities that make it distinct. Nor do I.

What am I saying?

The West is collapsing in it’s spirit and identity. It is physically collapsing literally (a word everyone is now so fond of) under the weight of unnatural human bodies.

Uruguay is the nation most similar to the West while still being distinctly different and with it’s own identity. This identity is known, understood, and valued by the average individual.

Uruguay is not a developed or refined culture. Observation not judgment. There is room for you here. Room for your ideas and contributions. Come and join us. Assimilation is easy for those who remember what “right and wrong” of the 20thcentury were, are fond of eating beef, love the wind across a grassy plain and the sight of a setting sun over the beach. This is not poetry; it’s a place. I founded Southern Shelter by uniting supremely capable individuals that I found working here separately for the purpose initially of making my vision possible but these are significant times we are living in and we have a singular opportunity for a win-win-win.

  • Win: this is a business that employs Uruguayans.
  • Win: your life is worth more than the West offers you.
  • Win: by coming here and living out your dream you will impact this nation and create opportunities for those here they otherwise would not have.

Southern Shelter overcomes hurdles, opens doors, and will make it possible for you to join us here and I hope this small essay gives you both some hope and invitation.
